Scammers posing as off-duty RCMP RCMP would like to make the public aware of an ongoing telephone soliciting scam which has been occurring in communities across southern Alberta, including Brooks and Lethbridge. Unknown persons are calling residences and identifying themselves as off-duty Brooks RCMP members who are seeking donations for Haiti relief and the Boys and Girls Club. The Brooks RCMP reminds the public that the RCMP does not solicit funds on behalf of any charitable organization. There are no members of the Brooks RCMP detachment collecting any funds on behalf of Haiti or the Boys and Girls Club. The Brooks RCMP are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying anyone affected by this fraudulent activity. If you receive a phone call from a person identifying themselves as a member of the RCMP collecting funds on behalf of any charitable organization, please use caution and question the person on their name, badge number, detachment and callback number. If you have been contacted by these persons, if you are a victim, or if you have any information pertaining to this fraudulent activity please contact Brooks detachment 403-794-4400.
